Proposal for student magazine

Proposal
Megan Henwood

My magazine will be aimed at teenagers to young adults from 16+- meaning teenagers who have started college and existing students at colleges. The magazine will be have advice about money and have stories from other students in it- to help others with finding the right balance with studying, friends and work. Some of my cover lines and stories will include a girl doing a science experiment where she tries to improve her grades by drinking more water. Another will be how to find a balance in your life to study but also have fun; there would be advice on money issues and more.
For titles, I thought of several before picking one. The ones I thought of include: ‘Estudiantes’, as it means ‘student’ in Spanish and it would show culture, but I discarded this title as not everyone would understand what it meant, and those who do know what it means would think that the whole magazine would be in Spanish. Another one I thought of is ‘SDCM’, which means ‘South Downs College Magazine’ but I discarded it as I thought the magazine could be used in most colleges if it had a neutral name. I also thought of ‘Student Life’ as the magazine is purely for students and would be there to help them with their money and more, so I decided to have my title as ‘Student Life’. For the fonts, I decided to use a modern font such as ‘Arial’, ‘Cambia’ or ‘Times New Roman’ and this would a modern magazine and shows it’s not too fancy and it gets to the point.
For taglines, I thought of having one like ‘Advice on perfect balance’ as this is exactly what my magazine will be about. I also thought about ‘A guide for college’, which is kind of basic, but again, this is what my magazine is about.
The magazine front cover and contents page will be part of the autumn season, so I am using colours such as red, orange, yellow and brown. However, the magazine will be published once every half term, so the magazine would have a Christmas edition and a summer edition, where the colours would reflect the season. The magazine could be published just before the holidays (whether it is a half term or end of term).
For the image on the front cover, it will be a student in the middle close up. My picture is of a male student, either reading a book, on the computer or handing a book back into the library. This would show the studious side of college. However, the pictures inside the contents page will be the fun side of college- with groups of friends relaxing, to show that there is a fun side of college. I will be taking pictures of my friends to get these pictures.
For my dimensions for the front cover, I will be having is the one most like an A4 piece of paper, the measurements are: Length- 28.5cm and width- 22cm, and this is because I would like it to be more traditional, and not fussy.
